About Us
Gabalot Gargens is owned and operated by Janet Heishman. In 1995, after a trip to another "plant outlet" , paying high prices and generally being ignored by the staff, she became determined to change that situation for others. Janet started out with a small greenhouse, which still operates, selling a large varietys of heirloom tomato plants and a selection of vegetable plants.
Over the years, she expanded Gabalot Gardens to include items not normally found at the larger outlets. Janet, aka Gabalot, speaks with every customer and holds her staff to the same level. We listen all season long to the wants and needs of our customers, we teach at every opportunity and play when time allows. Our joy comes from watching a small child discover the world of gardening and the stories of success from someone who never thought they could raise a plant. Even better is the look of suprise when a customer rings out and sees how small their bill is. Our job is done!!
Janet combines the old fashioned with the newer environmentally sound ways of keeping her greenhouses. Most annuals and perennials, vegetable or flower, are started at Gabalot Gardens. Hand seeding often results in extra babies in your pot. Those pots are recycled by the constant request of "Bring back your plastic" . Recycling the plastic helps to keep our cost down and out of our landfills.
Hands on with every customer is a constant source of Joy for Janet. Every person is a new friend and for her an opportunity to spread the joy of gardening. Teaching a beginner or learning from the more experienced is what keeps her going. |
